Headaches

A person with a headache has  pain  beneath the scalp or forehead behind the eyes or arising from the head or upper neck. While headaches may occur infrequent or frequently, they are still the most common nervous system disorder  afflicting half of the adult population at least once a year according to the WHO.

Types Of Headache

Tension Headaches
Often people experience the infrequent tension headache. Few people however, have tension headaches just about every day, and these are considered to be chronic. Symptoms for tension headaches usually include pressure and muscle tension on both sides of the head  and back of the neck.  Most of the people describe tension headaches as having a band squeezed around their head.

Cluster Headaches
Cluster headaches affect men more often than women. They are extremely intense, very severe headaches that last between 30 and 45 minutes; a person can have several in one day. They usually come on with no warning, catching people by surprise. The pain is piercing and usually located on one side of the head, often around the eye. People also report teary eyes on the affected side and sinus congestion. The headaches will recur over a period of time, almost always on the same side, and are followed by a headache-free period of varying length

Migraine headaches
Migraines are severe, recurring, and painful headaches. They can be preceded or accompanied by sensory warning signs and other symptoms. The pain is often described as throbbing or pulsing and usually begins on one side of the head. Migraine headaches are worsened by physical activity, light, sound, or physical movement. The pain typically last from 4 hours up to 3 days.

Some tips for headache relief:
  1.       Close your eyes and take rest. It is an effective headache treatment for a migraine headache, and can help ease a tension headache as well. Sit in a quiet, dark room with your eyes closed and just relax for a bit. Patients with migraine instinctively seek out a dark, quiet environment in which they can go to sleep for at least a few hours.
  2.          Massage your neck . Rubbing your neck and temples can improve blood flow and soothe tension headaches.
  3.          Warm up your neck Try putting a heating pad or a warm cloth around your neck and the base of your skull to ease tension headaches. If that does not help you can apply an ice pack instead to see if that brings you headache relief.
  4.          Relax. Meditate, breathe deeply, and try to visualize a peaceful image.
  5.          Minimize stress. If you have a bad headache, try to step away from stress, literally. Avoid noisy environments, leave work a little early if you can, or ask your partner to take care of chores or the kids.
  6.          Watch what you eat and drink. What you put into your body can have a big impact on your headaches. caffeine , alcohol  cigarettes avoiding these things
